Big Bear’s cubist and surrealist influence clearly shows in this piece, as do his dominant themes of social and cultural integration. His work is in the collections of Plains Art Museum, Walker Art Center, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, N.M. A major exhibition of his work was shown at Plains Art Museum in 2009. Big Bear won the Bush Foundation’s Enduring Visions Fellowship in 2009.
