Over the past few years, Carlson has taken numerous approaches to landscape as a way to experiment with color and brushstroke. On a trip to Washburn, N.D., Carlson became intrigued by the hills and shapes of the North Dakota landscape, finding inspiration in a group of hay bales. Carlson holds a Bachelor of Science in art education from Minnesota State University Moorhead.
