With this work, Gerenz employs the traditional technique of needle felting to comment on how folklore functions in contemporary culture. She constructs animals that are inspired by myth and exist between fantasy and reality. In recognition of her contemporary fiber arts work, Gerenz was recently given the Premio Valcellina Award from Le Arti Tessili Association. She will complete her B.F.A. at Minnesota State University Moorhead this May.
