Nelson’s work is heavily influenced by folktales, myths, fables and legends. In contrast to oral and written stories, her works intentionally negate a clear narrative by reducing the visuaal information to a single moment, retaining a focus on fiction gleaned from facts and exploring culturally desirable and undesirable behaviors and changes in the environment. Nelson is an adjunct art professor at the University of North Dakota whose work has appeared in numerous group shows throughout the country. She was also an artist-in-residence at the Jentel Artist’s Residency in Banner, Wyo.
