A native of Fargo-Moorhead, T.L. Solien teaches art at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has forged a national career with dozens of exhibitions, including the 1983 Whitney Biennial, an early recognition of his talent. This mixed media piece is part of a large series inspired by the novels Moby-Dick by Herman Melville, Ahab’s Wife by Sena Jeter Naslund, and the history of Western settlement. This image shows an imaginative scene from Fargo’s Island Park, circa 1910. Plains Art Museum is organizing a major exhibition of Solien’s work for 2013.
