Timothy Ray
Night Watch: Stockton Island (For Gene Johnson)

Though drawing from a history of thoughtful minimalism (such as the now famous black paintings by Frank Stella) and abstract expressionism, Ray has developed a truly unique artistic sensibility.
Concerning this piece Ray said, “Stockton Island is a favorite overnight mooring location for sailors. The natural features — sand, stars, water, wind — defy naturalistic representation. I spent many nights there with Gene Johnson and a hearty crew. Gene recently died, so I am dedicating this piece to him.”
