Laurie Van Wieren will lead a movement workshop for visual artists, performance artists, and actors and dancers from the novice to experienced. Inspired by Judy Onofrio’s circus themes, she will focus on movement techniques of clowns, circus barkers, animal trainers, animal performers, and acrobats. Join the three-ring circus for fun and fitness. For high school age to adults. Wear comfortable clothes to move in. Limit 20. $20/$15 for PAM members. To register, call 701-232-3821 ext 101.

Enjoy the natural light and wood floors of the Museum’s beautiful open 3rd floor space and energize yourself for the day in this new program of at PAM. Jan Knoedel serves as the main instructor for the class. Jan Knoedel is a certified yoga instructor who has taught varied levels of yoga for more than eight years.

Learn important color and design techniques from an award-winning watercolorist. Class participants will work with a limited color palette to learn about color qualities and how to divide and organize a painting to produce a personal design.

Please bring the following materials to class:

  • Four sheets of 22″ x 30″ good quality watercolor paper (Winsor and Newton or Arches preferred)
  • Watercolors (Winsor and Newton preferred) in the following colors: Aureolin, Alizarin Crimson, Cobalt Blue, Quinacridone Gold, Antwerp Blue, Ultramarine Blue, and other colors you may have
  • Pencil
  • Gator board to place the watercolor paper
  • Bucket for water
  • Paint palette
  • Winsor and Newton flat watrercolor brush sceptre gold II 606, 3/4 series 295, Robert Simons #36 round, or any watercolor brush you may have

Artist bio: Carmen Bruhn began her art studies in the Republic of Panama, where she was born and raised. Bruhn received her bachelor’s in architecture from Panama National University and has further pursued her formal art studies through workshops with nationally prominent artists. Her work has been included in many regional and national art shows, twice winning the Red River Watercolor Society National Exhibition Gold Medal Award.

Create a funky, elegant, and/or audacious mosaic sculpture for your garden with multi-media artist Magda McGowan Szeitz. She will share her techniques for designing, constructing, and adorning durable and functional outdoor sculptures and introduce you to the large mosaic sculptures in the exhibition, See Acts of Audacious Daring: The Circus World of Judy Onofrio for inspiration.

Artist bio: Szeitz holds a BFA from the University of Minnesota Moorhead and has worked as a teacher, curator, gallery administrator, and studio artist.

The deadline for registration is Friday, September 15.

Schlossman will share that background as well as her own considerable painting experience and scholarship. The painting sessions will encourage intuitive, abstract art making and include lively discussion, with the goal of producing artwork that is both sophisticated and evolved.
