Spring Gala: “Optical Illusions” set for May 3

On Saturday, May 3, prepared to be dazzled by “Optical Illusions.” This year’s theme is inspired by The One Minute Film Festival exhibition, and from 7 p.m. to midnight, you’ll find the museum absolutely electrified. Guests are encouraged to add illusion and illumination into their attire through patterns, color, wearable art, holograms, and LED or other light up accessories.

The décor will feature flashes of brilliance on every floor, with special lighting effects designed by Raul Gomez, and guests will be able to create their own laser paintings and take photos of the temporary creations. The walls will come alive with an animated projection mapping sequence  which will premiere at the Gala, created by Ruben Lara and scored by Dave Hanson.

One of the many highlights of the Spring Gala is the silent art auction. This year, the creative visions of 71 artists will be on display, all of which are featured  in our online Art Auction Preview as well as in a free art auction catalogue available at the Museum. A preview exhibition of the works will open two weeks prior to the Gala in the Starion Gallery. The auction event will be enhanced this year through use of a wireless bidding system that allows bids to be placed and tracked on electronic bid pads next to each work of art, as well as at kiosk stations throughout the museum and via bidders’ smartphones.

Live music will be performed by The Carluster Cumplebee Orchestra, and guests will light up the dance floor with Diane Miller and the Silver Daggers. The Gala also offers the area’s largest wine and beer tastings by Happy Harry’s Bottle Shops, fantastic food from Mosaic Foods, cocktails by Sidestreet Grille & Pub, savory desserts by Nichole’s Fine Pastry, and coffee by Dunn Brothers Coffee Co.

We are grateful for the generous support of our presenting sponsor, Border States, and the expert guidance of the Spring Gala co-chair couples, Jo and Birch Burdick, and Arlette and Richard Preston, as well as the creative input of Raul Gomez and Dave Hanson, the marketing and event design co-chairs. Additional major support is provided by diamond sponsors H2M and WDAY, and platinum sponsors Happy Harry’s Bottle Shops, High Plains Reader, and Milestones Photography.

Tickets are now available via our Gala website, on site at the Museum, or by calling 701-551-6100.  The cost is $100, but can be purchased up through April 18 for the discounted price of $90. All proceeds benefit the Museum’s educational programs and $45 is tax deductible. Plains Art Museum is located at 704 First Avenue North in Fargo.
