Art and Poetry Workshop with Dr. Craig Howe

Dr. Craig Howe, Director of the Center for American Indian Research and Native Studies (CAIRNS), will lead an art and poetry workshop in conjunction with the exhibition Lakota Emergence. Participants will delve deeply into the Lakota emergence narrative and will compose original haikus and/or drawings based on the passages and artwork.

For more than five decades, Rimer Cardillo’s artwork has offered a powerful commentary on the intersection of politics, economics, and ecological degradation. Since the late 1970s, his practice has focused on the devastating impacts of human activity on the natural world, particularly the alarming decline in animal species and plant life.
