Empower Haiti: Artist Talk

November 02, 2021, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm
Listed In: Talks and Screenings

You are cordially invited to a special program – a personal Artist Talk with Wess Philomé, facilitated by Dr. Kelvin Monroe, Coordinator of the Museum’s Voices of Creative Change Initiative. The project emerges as an opportunity to learn about and empower Haiti. In the midst of the recent natural devastation and (external) political de-stabilizing forces, Haiti remains a vibrant and resilient nation with a profound past (the first successful slave insurrection in the Western Hemisphere) and resulting paradoxical present. Come be with us and engage with Wess Philomé, who will discuss his choice of prints for this auction/exhibition, and the significance of these prints as avatars for engaging with Haiti’s past, present, and future.

We encourage you to join Plains Art Museum, in partnership with Philomé Productions, for Empower Haiti: Disaster Relief and Orphanage Fundraiser. This silent auction and exhibition feature seven distinct and original photographic works by Wess Philomé, an energetic, insightful, and incisive emerging artist who has resided in ND for 15 years.

Complimentary African European fusion cuisine is provided by Adibon Catering.

  • Fried Plantains (Vegetarian, Kachu Salad & 5BK Sauce)
  • Vegetarian Sambusa (Triangular fried pastry with a savory filling of spiced potatoes, onions, peas, & carrots)
  • Meat Sambusa (seasoned ground beef)
  • Chicken & Jollof Rice

This Artist talk is made possible by generous support from Plains Art Museum and the Voices of Creative Change Initiative (endowed by Arlette & Richard Preston).
