Artist Talk: Mark Applebaum

February 03, 2018, 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm

Meet avant-garde American composer Mark Applebaum, who will discuss, perform, and guide the audience in listening to work in the Picturing Music exhibition. Associate Professor of Composition and Theory in the Department of Music at Stanford University, Applebaum has challenged the conventional boundaries of musical ontology throughout his career as a composer / musician / artist. Featuring performances and dialogue with the Varying Degrees Trio, Lisa Bost and members of the MSUM Percussion Ensemble, this talk will illuminate Applebaum’s expansive and boundary-pushing practice.
