Teens have power in their thoughts, ideas, and their voice. Through the Teen Creatives Collective at Plains Art Museum, we provide teens with the opportunity to engage with current exhibitions through inquiry-based discussions, attend artist talks and special events, and develop unique teen-lead experiences.
This program is in development and we invite you to be a part in building a vibrant and relevant teen program at Plains Art Museum. This is the time to get involved and create the space you want to see in your community.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Teen Creatives Collective?
The Teen Creatives Collective is a teen-lead engagement opportunity for teens looking to connect with the arts, their peers, and their community. All teens, ages 12-18, are welcome and the program is designed to be flexible and responsive to teen needs as their schedules and lives evolve.
Why should a teen be involved in the Teen Creatives Collective?
Teens have a lot on their mind, incredibly busy schedules, and sometimes chaotic lives. This program is designed as a space for teens to come and be themselves outside of school and extracurricular activities.
Teens currently involved have connected with friends outside their school district and grades, strengthened their identity through arts engagement and timely conversations, and developed skills and relationships that will serve them into adulthood.
We respect the teen voice and have seen the mutual benefits of strong teen presence in the museum space. We hope you will join.
Do teens receive the chance to work with the Smithsonian Institution?
Yes! This program was developed following a teen-centered program with the Smithsonian Institution and we will continue to offer incredible opportunities, such as Democracy in Dialogue Virtual Exchange, and participation in the Regional Youth Summit.
Teens are busy, what is the time commitment?
We are meeting at least once a month on Thursdays from 5:30-7 PM with encouragement to attend events like artist’s talks, workshops, and other opportunities as they are scheduled.
If you are interested but unsure if you can commit, contact us at 701-551-6100 and mention you have a teen interested in programming.
Is this an internship?
No, the Teen Creatives Collective is not an internship. This program was designed through thoughtful and intentional planning of a local group of teens and their families seeking a third space where they could be themselves, connect with their peers from other school districts, and share their love for art. The “work” we do is teen-lead and facilitated by museum staff in an effort to providing engaging and relevant opportunities to teens, connecting them with artists, community, and each other.
