Democracy in Dialogue Virtual Exchange

Democracy in Dialogue Virtual Exchange, Spring 2026

Art should be felt, not just seen. Explore the teen-selected artworks below and the personal reflections created in response to the impact they felt.

From February through May, a group of 11 engaged and dedicated students gathered weekly to learn and discuss how our community has played a role in the 250 years of the American Experience. Through slow, reflective looking and teen-lead dialogue, we explored Wiwahokichiyapi, They Promised Things to Each Other. This exhibition highlights the development of treaty relationships between the Native Nations and the United States government. Stuck by the historical and continuing impact of this exhibition and the permanent collection, students chose one artwork they felt connected to.

Thank you to the Smithsonian Institution for the opportunity to participate in the 2026 Democracy in Dialogue Virtual Exchange this spring.

We will continue to bring opportunities like this one to our teen community and we invite you to get involved here.
