Artside Lecture: Rimer Cardillo

August 28, 2025, 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm

This Artside Chat promises a conversation with a special guest focusing on Rimer Cardillo and the multi-site exhibition Deep Ecologies / Sacred Natures / Temporal Geographies. A leading voice in environmental art, Cardillo’s work spans more than five decades and reflects a sustained commitment to ecological consciousness, cultural preservation, and sacred symbolism. This conversation will explore the philosophical and visual frameworks of Cardillo’s practice—from his early printmaking in Uruguay to his sculptural installations that draw from reliquaries, altarpieces, and endangered ecologies. With reverence for land, memory, and spiritual continuity, Cardillo’s work invites us to reflect on our own entanglements with the natural world—and the urgent need to protect it. Free.

Deep Ecologies

For more than five decades, Rimer Cardillo’s artwork has offered a powerful commentary on the intersection of politics, economics, and ecological degradation. Since the late 1970s, his practice has focused on the devastating impacts of human activity on the natural world, particularly the alarming decline in animal species and plant life.
