Virtual Art Auction Exhibition

June 19, 2020 - July 24, 2020

Jane L. Stern Gallery

Every year for over two decades, people from across the region have gathered in Fargo to celebrate and support the visual arts at Plains Art Museum’s Spring Gala. This event has also been one of the most well-attended events in the region, often attracting over 600 people for an unforgettable night. The Spring Gala has become one of the most generously supported fundraisers in the region, with Presenting Sponsorship provided by Bell Insurance and with support from dozens of other businesses like Microsoft, Happy Harry’s, Livewire, and many more. We cannot thank our sponsors enough for their visionary annual support which has enabled the Museum’s accessibility and programs to grow.

Due to the ongoing concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic, Plains Art Museum will not host the Spring Gala this year. While this is heartbreaking for all of us, it is our vow to you that 2020 will not get the best of us!

Instead of attending the Gala, you are invited to participate in the Virtual Art Auction. In fact, no tickets are necessary and everyone is invited to participate. On display in the first-floor main gallery of the Museum is an exhibition of artworks available for silent auction purchase. You can visit the Museum prior to bidding if you would like to choose your favorite artwork(s), or you can just log into the auction anytime between July 10th and 24th to place your bid. Other items available for purchase are tickets to the Museum’s Culinary and Wine adventure. Or test your luck with a Tombola box, you could win a Spanish wine gift basket, a downtown shopping spree, or rubber duckies. Like Spring Gala Art Auctions in the past, there are artworks available that fit most every taste and budget. A portion of proceeds go to the artist and a portion goes to the Museum’s PlainsArt4All General Fund, which keeps the Museum free and open to the public.

Instead of gathering with 600 or 700 people, we also encourage you to host a small, outdoor or virtual party for your Museum with your family and friends on Friday, July 24th. We invite you to post pictures of your gatherings and tag our social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram). This year’s theme was going to be Surrealism, so the more creative you can be with costumes and decorations, the better. On this day, a community sharing their love for the arts and for one another will be reflected for the world to see.

If none of this sounds fun or of interest to you, but you like to support your art museum, we also invite you to support Plains Art Museum’s “Let’s Get Through This Together” campaign, which is designed to enable us to thrive through this challenging time. Thank you for your love, participation, and support.

No Time For Despair

To say that right now is the ideal time to make art that speaks directly to the people about social justice is an understatement. Because the very nature of art is to undertake or assume the role of a healer by shading light on the human condition.
