Exhibition: Eerie Selections From the Collection

Unveil the Eerie during November’s Artside Chat. Join us Thursday, November 21st, from 6:00–7:00 pm, for an Artside Chat centered on Eerie Selections from Local Collections, a thought-provoking exhibition conceived by Kaitlin Molden, Plains Art Museum’s Registrar. Kaitlin will lead the conversation alongside Exhibition Programming Manager Kelvin Monroe, offering unique insights into the inspiration and curation of this show. Free with registration.

The exhibition features objects from the Museum’s Permanent Collection alongside pieces on loan from the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County, exploring themes of Spiritualism, superstition, and the supernatural. From spectral spirit photographs to ritualistic artifacts, the exhibition bridges the tangible and intangible, inviting visitors to reflect on how beliefs about the unseen have shaped cultural and artistic traditions.

Dive into the Victorian fascination with séances, the echoes of 19th-century American Spiritualism, and the ways grief and loss have left their mark on visual culture. Kaitlin’s vision and curatorial focus promise a compelling evening of discovery and discussion. Don’t miss this opportunity to explore the eerie and uncover the stories behind the art. Sometimes, after all, “seeing is believing.”
